Actually, some amniotes (most notably mammals, but there are others)

They re-absorb the shell or something?
They don't produce a shell in the first place, usually. You are aware
that mammals, other than monotremes, don't lay eggs, aren't you?
According to this site
http://www.elasmodiver.com/Elasmodiver%20Glossary.htm
there are several modes that are used by fishes:

Good, it seems that you are starting to open up a bit to calling
mammals fish. Otherwise it wouldn't make any sense to quote that list
on amniote reproduction.

That's my point, the NAMES 'Mammalia' and "Amniotia' are based on
seemingly different criteria.
That's "Amniota". Yes, the names are based on different criteria. So?
Scientific names can refer to anything at all, at the whim of whoever
invents them. Thus we get Maniakasaurus knopfleri, because the describer
liked Dire Straits. Is there a point hiding somewhere behind your point?
Yes, that similar levels of classification are based on different kinds
of criretia.
Feet here, hip bones there, mammary glands there...

So what? Do you think evolution should modify all characters neatly in
proportion, so that we could classify the entire diversity of life
based on just a few characters? Maybe you should ask it nicely.

It doesn't matter if some animals evolve a rotating disco sphere that
sticks out of their ass and plays Barry White tunes - we can base a
classification on that, as long as it's a synapomorphy.
