Amorous roosters will scratch up grubs, worms, and seeds for hens in
the hope of earning the hens' love and affection. Usually their
scratching yields no discernable results: no tasty protein and no
admiring feminine respect. However now and then a worm, bug, or seed
will show up and the hen will gobble it down with a smile on her...
er.... ah.... lips. It happens just enough to make the rooster's
display worth his effort.
