random mutation to thank for it.

No, 'random mutation' and the normal genetic variety produced through
sexual reproduction are definitely *not* the same thing. If you're
going to argue that the difference between parents and their offspring
is *solely* the result of random mutation,


Mutation is the root cause of all variation.

The reason the very concept of difference exists at all is because of
mutation. Reproduction, sexual or otherwise, is always accompanied by
mutation.

Sure, once, now, if there was no mutation, different parents could
mate, and produce a child that wasn't like either of them, but the
reason why the mother and father are different in the first place is
because between them and their common ancestor are two different
histories of mutation. There is also influx of sexual data, but on each
occasion, the fact that the two sex partners are different all goes
back to different histories of mutation.

No mutation, no variation, period.
