Robin, its obvious you are an intelligent person with a deep interest in
all things philosophical, but this forum is not really the place to wax
'philisophique'. This is more a question and answer (and pun (and Monty
Python (and Pratchett))) place where getting to the point is valued over
almost any amount of navel gazing. (I suspect it depends on who's navel)
Oh no. Not true. I have a realitively circumscribed set of interests.
One is origins. MY origins. My people, the lowly ones (as well as some
privileged and luckier ones), and I consider myself "Western" and an
heir to the Ango-Euro civilization. But "all things philosphical"???
Not hardly. I have extremely small capacity in Greek, even just reading
it. I have slight ability in some other reading. But little
acquaintance with eastern thought and prayer. I am very "middle
American" in many ways. And I am grateful I see people here who bring
up so very widely scattered subjects and issues. I gave you genealogy
notes in the post you responded to. (It was not you that I had
answered, but you graciously -- or gratuitously -- jumped in).
Do you remember the person I recommended Descent of Man, to him. Sorry.
(NOW there is a book that gets to the point in a methodical way.) I am
glad to see so many of the (and such a variety) of contributions and
viewpoints represented.
While Philosophy is an important component of science, most here are
highly focused on debunking misrepresentations of science, particularly
those sciences related to evolution, so are more likely to consider your
posts to be nothing but fancy footwork while skirting the issue.
Most. That is a good idea. Let's take a vote.
I share your impatience with those skirting the issues. Those who know
the Truth, and seek to silence anyone with something new.
Anyone with something new (in 1859 it was new)
He dared to be a non-conformist, and all their fancy footwork could not
obscure the value of what he had to offer.
If you are interested in the philosophy of science, that is all well and
good but it would do you well to avoid the superfluous quotes and get to
the point.
(Even philosophers can get to the point on occasion.)
(Or so I've heard.)

Science rationally modifies a theory to fit evidence, creationism
emotionally modifies evidence to fit a specific interpretation of the
bible.
I would like a place I can discuss human origins.
But who is a human? Am I?
Are my roots appreciated in YOUR civilization?
