How does life elsewhere affect life on Earth? Shouldn't we be
concentrating on saving the myriads of children that die of hunger and
contaminated water every day? Where is science when you need it, outside
your cozy little world of academia?

Let's explore that. One of the biggest killers of children in the
world today is drug resistant malaria. Over a million people a year
die from malaria. All of the research I know of to deal with this
disease are naturalistic, usually using evolutionary concepts. Can you
point to any Intelligent Design or Creationist based research to deal
with this disease? How about *any* Intelligent Design or Creationist
based research to deal with *any* disease? How about a single such
experiment in the last 50 years?

I'd love to see projects such as the one undertaken by Engineers without
frontiers. They modified old treadmills/nordictracks into water pumps,
taught the locals in African communities how to repair them when they
broke down. Now *THAT* is science to the benefit of mankind.

Go here http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed and
type in malaria.
