Yes, but then Stephen Gould would have had to start his books with "I'm not a
historian or philosopher, but..."

It would have been funny as well if "The Selfish Gene" had started with
"I'm not a geneticist, but..."

Take that line, and you have Ernst Mayr starting _The Growth of Biological
Knowledge_ with "I'm not a historian...".. Hang on, that would be a *very*
good idea.
