Good post. I await news of the research study from the DI. :-)

Also I'm curious about the migration of the different continental
groups of animals. I expect that all the animals destined to be native
only to the Americas must've fallen over each other making a beeline
for the Asia-to-America land bridge.

I can imagine the mastodons, woolly mammoths and mastodons elbowing the
musk oxen out of the way. "Out of the way, ye smelly freak! We're in
a hurry to get over there, breed like hell and then go extinct. We've
got a schedule to keep, dammit!"

The little guys like squirrels, chimpmunks and possums would of course
try to stay out from under foot. Imagine if one of them was unfaithful
enough to get squished by one of the megafauna? God would've really
been pissed.

How about the camels trying to figure out who got to go to America and
who would stay in the Middle East. Can you imagine the fist fights
that must have resulted?

What about all those horse, er, horse-like species? Did they travel in
one long line, sorted by size? If they got bored alont the way, they
could have really screwed with the stegosauruses on the trail: "Hey
wait a sec, weren't you taller yesterday?"

Just imagine making a long trek like that while listening to the
Tyrannosaurus and Allosaurus constantly bickering about who was the
biggest baddest beast of all time.

And *don't even* tell me I'm the one who has to keep the giant sloths
from getting lost every few hours.

Imagine how pissed off the snakes would have been. How would *you*
like to slither at the end of that line? Imagine crawling 10,000 miles
through uncounted tons of animal poop.

THEN, after arriving at the end of the trek, 99% of them learn that
they have to go extinct? I can hear the complaints now; "Who the
hell's in charge of this goddam fiasco...?!?"

It's not easy being an animal in a man's world...
