Actually it is worse than that. According to White House statements,
Cheney heard birds flush behind him, so he turned and cut loose
straight into the setting sun.

As a (former) hunter, I would say that shooting at sound is about the
stupidest thing you can do. Shooting at sound with the sun straight in
your eyes- well...this is the guy who could have control of nucular
weapons in a heartbeat? How's that for a judgement call?

Has anyone noticed that the supposed eyewitness who reported this to the
press was actually sitting in a car about 100 yards away? At dusk.
