ok, and the insanity is then that natural selection depends on there
being another loser or winner in a population.
No. Natural selection only occurs when there *are* (in a *population*)
winners (plural) and losers (plural) based on some endogenous
difference (aka, phenotypic difference) between the two types of
organisms in a specified environment. That is, natural selection only
occurs when the winners and losers are such for *causal* reasons. When
the winners or losers are not based (on average) on some endogenous
difference, then the difference is either environmental or chance.
Only an idiot would think that there is some sort of necessary
mano-a-mano competition going on in natural selection.
So when you look to a plant for instance, then you must imagine some
other loser or winner plant elsewhere for natural selection to apply.
No. You have a *population* of plants with a specified phenotype that
are *significantly* more likely to win (by the measure of reproductive
success) than a *population* of plants with an alternate specified
phenotype. Single plants winning or losing is irrelevant.
Why we could just put a loser plant elsewhere in the ground, and the
minute it's in the ground, natural selection will start applying to
this population of two.
Like I said, only an idiot would think that natural selection deals
with a specific single winner and/or loser.
One can see no difference for the organism regardless if natural
selection applies or not.
Like I said, only an idiot would think that natural selection deals
with a specific single winner and/or loser organism. Natural selection
deals with whether or not a specific phenotype is *significantly* more
likely to win in a particular environment relative to the alternative
phenotype.
This means that natural selection simply doesn't exist in nature.
Only if one is ignorant enough to think that phenotypes have no effect
on the probability of reproductive success.
Natural selection is just a comparison made in the minds of Darwinists.
Only if one is ignorant enough to think that phenotypes have no effect
on the probability of reproductive success.
