And so the struggle for reproductive success between breathing and
nonbreathing results in the breathers to be selected for, thus
explaining why we breathe. Or to put it in Dawkins words; Darwin made
it possible for us to give a sensible answer to the question "why are
breathers?". We no longer have to resort to superstition when faced
with such deep problems. There are breathers because they are better at
reproducing than non breathers.
