Question about being blind, deaf, and mute

Hi all,
I don't know if this is really the right newsgroup to post to, but I'm
dying to get insight into this question. So, here goes....

First, let me just say that I'm a very curious person. To that end, I
will ask anyone any series of questions to satisfy my curiosity.
That's why I'm posting this question.

Background:
I volunteer at a retirment home. I have a book called America's
Century, Year by Year from 1900 to 2000. I've been holding a chat
group at this retirement home for over five years now and we've been
just talking about their lives and current events. It's gotten to a
point where we've talked about everything, so I decided to start
bringing this book with me every session and going through a few years
at a time. Last week while going through 1900 to 1905, we covered 1902

and Helen Keller. According to the article in this book it says that
she lost her sight and hearing at age 19 months.

So I started wondering... did she have internal dialogue? My reasoning

was this: she had 19 months worth of stimulii from her surroundings.
Her eyes and brain registered colors, among many other things. Her
ears and brain registered voices and most importantly language during
that time. But then she lost that. So then she was on her own.
According to this article through a quote from Helen Keller herself she

talks of when she was 7 years old with her teacher Anne Sullivan at a
water spout, "As the cool stream rushed over one hand, my teacher
spelled into the other the word water ... the mystery of language was
revealed to me".

Reading that quote made me wonder if she was 7yo and had the mystery of

language revealed to her, was she having internal thoughts on her own
up until then? And if so, how?

If you know of another group I should post this to please let me know.

Thanks all!
