Hey, I spent a half dozen years in New Haven, and I have many happy
memories: Calling the police to report a burglery... Watching rows of
sleeping homeless in the train station... Calling the police to report
a mugging... Sprinting out of the physics building every night to
avoid lurking muggers... Calling the police to report a different
mugging... Chatting with a local heroin addict about the ethics of
mugging... Calling the police to report a purse snatching... Watching
a couple of kids sawing through our front porch railing to steal a
bicycle... Calling the police to report a purse snatching from a
prostitute... Long conversations with the paranoid schizophrenic who
stayed with us from time to time... Calling the police to report my
own imminent mugging.
