See, the problem with using "u" instead of 'you' is that it's a switch
of thought process - you're going from thinking in English to thinking
pictographically (since in English, 'u' would be pronounced oo). In
this way, what you propose would be more like Chinese or Japanese -
since one would associate the symbol 'u' with the word 'you' and the
actual character being 'used to refer to the one or ones being
addressed'
