"why some people, many of whom are actually relatively intelligent, would

What does relatively intelligent mean?
The people that maintain that the earth is young are a small minority even
among Christians and I doubt that magic is mentioned by any. Do you intend
to be insulting or is it ignorance? Do you equate opposition to evolution
with low intelligence?
"the scientific approach demands that we avoid speculation and work from
solid data
> Science works upon what can be observed".
Look at the post "Skywales"; this is pure speculation designed by scientists
doing what they do best and at the same time denying the right to others.
Click on the link and then tell me what the object in the painting looks
like and then tell me why they have set up an exhibition about alien life,
but then go on to debunk what others have speculated is alien life.
"Evolution is possibly the single most-supported theory in the biological
sciences".
You are right here. It is supported to the extent that facts are often
ignored.
This is why evolutionists steer clear of abiogenisis. The first living
entity must have had a huge amount of redundant genetic material in order to
become the biosphere we see today, or it must have acquired the genetic
material along the way. How?

This is an argument that is often used to deny evolution.
