At the same time, if life expectancy is low, then even poor probability of
success NOW beats zero probability of surviving to an age with a better
probability of successful reproduction.

Disclosure: Eric was my major prof for a time until we had a falling out
about why his stomach-contents analysis work was hopelessly flawed (I can't
understand why he took that personally! :-), but he's still an extremely
bright guy.
