Besides mitochondria and chloroplasts, the best example of symbiosis
creating a single "organism" is probably lichen. I believe the fungi
and algae in lichens have their own separate reproduction systems, at
least when the lichen is not reproducing vegetatively.

I vaguely remember from somewhere that the Portugese man-o-war is a
symbiosis of several different organisms, but do not remember enough
to comment further.
