I don't know when the first one was done, but there is Ulfias'
translation into Gothic for which he had to construct a Gothic
alphabet since the Goths did not have their own writing system. See

A similar thing would probably have happened with other barbarian
languages, such as Vandalic etc. IIRC not many of these translations
survived as most of the languages they were written in disappeared.
The classic example is Cyril's construction of the Cyrillic alphabet
in order to be able to translate the Bible into Slavonic. Cyril was
sent by Constantinople which explains the similarities between the
Cyrillic and Greek alphabets. See
