Still, Mr. Mantis doesn't usually have a great time.... ;-)

But that doesn't answer why have some population that reproduces, and
some that doesn't. An "Intelligent Designer" could simply produce the
right amount of biomass each time, so that reproduction wouldn't be
necessary. Why go through the whole ringamarole?

Nope, I'm not saying that at all. I have no complaint with nature.
I'm asking Creationists and IDers why would what they perceive as God
go to the trouble of setting up organisms that reproduce, if he didn't
expect them to evolve?

Nope, I have not problem with how it's organized. Then again, I'm not
the one who wants to say God is constantly meddling with his creation.

I'm not making a judgement on nature, or God. I'm pointing out that
the Creationist position is illogical. Living thinigs reproduce, and
in doing so they will evolve, and unless that's what God intended,
replacement would make more sense.

God doesn't design such things because he has no need of them. We
have no evidence that reproducing things are designed, and as such if
we believe that they are, we must take in on faith, rather than trying
to make faith into "science".
