OR,
There is a god of finite intelligence who thought he'd have a shot at
it but got the retinas in backwards.
OR,
There are a number of gods who don't agree on things and squabble and
fight, causing the chaos we see.
OR,
There is a massive revolving crystal lens at the center of the
universe. When it turns our way, energy of a type we have not
discovered yet washes over the planet, causing certain molecules to
form.
