Yes, this is all true.
Well, except that if you were rich and powerful and aristocratic then
you wouldn't bother being a Christian preacher. If your /dad/ was rich
but you had an older brother who would get the money and the house,
then you would be put through college to be a priest so that you had a
nice job with one day's work a week and no heavy lifting and a lot of
time to read. Money might have to change hands to get you into an
actual priest job; it was pretty corrupt.
There are a lot of nineteenth-century novels about this, from Jane
Austen and George Eliot and Charles Dickens, on.
But the rest of the story the way you tell it sounds more like George
Washington, who wanted to join the British Army but was not
aristocratic enough because he was American and he went on to
conveniently discover the American Revolution.
