Re: Solving the Oil Problem



Oil shale and "clean coal" are not clean technologies. If we "solve"
the oil problem by increasing our use of coal, we will jump of the
frying pan into the fire ... of global warming.

Coal is far dirtier than oil as a fossil fuel. It's also far more
productive of CO2 per unit of energy produced. The mining of coal, at
least as it's practiced in the Appalachian and Cumberland mountains of
Tennessee, West Virginia and Kentucky, also wrecks the environment, far
more than the drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico does.

The real "clean tech" energy sources are RENEWABLE, which coal is not.
And they're not based on FOSSIL FUEL use, which is the main cause of
anthropogenic global climate change. Anyone who wants to persuade the
American people otherwise is trying to fool us.
