It is rather bazaar that every now and then someone dies while praying
in church. Proper studies should be undertaken to determine if
praying in church increases a person's chance of having a heart
attack. I have not been able find any such studies. The reason may
be that doing so might appear tactless, especially if the results were
negative, but sociological science should not balk at something just
because it offends the faithful . . .

Certainly, many people pray for money---mostly for debt relief,
prosperity or some other less obvious form of greed. Presumably, God
ignores such selfish prayers. More often, people pray for the health
of family and friends. Researches have sought to find out if praying
for the sick helps in their recovery. The results have not verified
that they do. Perhaps it is because knowing a lots of people were
praying for some "spirit" to help you because they wouldn't go to the
trouble of helping you themselves might not be especially comforting.
