Simply because if there were any sound theistic arguments, we atheists
would be morally obliged to renounce atheism and become theists.
Hypothetically, suppose a theist agrees that he has no evidence that
there is a god but says that his religion is good because the true
followers of his religion don't go around murdering people or having
sex outside of marriage. The theist immediately has the upper hand
because simply having the belief that there isn't a god doesn't imply
one has any moral values.
It's true that atheism alone has no direct ethical implications.
But atheistic humanism has; and a "true" follower of it behaves in a
morally acceptable manner as well.
The term is secular humanism, not atheistic humanism a false label
given by theists. Secular humanism requires no denial of gods, only the
recognition that persons should not be compelled to acknowledge any
gods.
Secular humanism doesn't have a morality other than the goal of
furthering humanity based on science and reason.
The goal of the theist is to control people.
