Re: Just when I thought bosses couldn't say anything stupider...

Got called in Friday morning. Bosses love Fridays
because those books say it allows time for the
employee to calm down over the weekend.

Anyway, was getting the "You're attitude sucks, blah,
blah, blah" routine and I get a nose bleed. So I'm
sitting there with blood dripping, ignoring it because
it wasn't too bad...

The boss stops the tirade, pauses, looks down at the
papers I had submitted, keeps the rest of the remarks
work related, and doesn't look me in the eye for the
rest of the meeting.

Brilliant! Maybe this is the answer. The next time anyone's called in by
the boss for one of their "talks", just inflict some minor injury on
yourself to distract their attention...

I can honestly say that I've never had a manager with that sort of attitude,
though. All my bosses have been very helpful and constructive, even when
they had genuine issues with me. The one time I got a real roasting was
when I was a manager myself and I lost my temper with one of my staff who
was pregnant at the time - I got hauled in by the boss and told in no
uncertain terms that we could get sued for this and might as well write out
a cheque for 12000 pounds on the spot. (Fortunately this didn't happen.)
Other than that I've generally had nothing but encouragement from managers,
and I've tried to treat staff the same way when I've had them.

What sort of attitudes have other people generally found in their managers?
