Dorothy asked: "Is your friend claustrophobic?"
I found out - to my amazement - that I am - at MY age (92) slightly
claustrophobic- it is no fun!!
I was recently hospitalized for a week, and some of the tests required
very "narrow" quarters,etc.etc. - I almost panicked. - - coming back to
my apt. which is on the fifth floor, I suddenly realized that I was
nervous about the daily elevator rides I HAVE to use,to get my mail, my
meal,etc.etc.
I was never claustrophobic, but I believe that, what started the whole
trouble was when, two years ago, I had to have an MRI.
Had never had one before - and, lo and behold - I could not finish it;
rang the bell they gave me,and had to be"released". It was awful; I
shall never have another. Although I was told, that, nowadays, they will
give you - if required - a sedative. Well, no sedative for me- no MRI.
At my advanced age, to suddenly become slightly claustrophobic is most
inconvenient - and - to me - embarrassing, since many tests are yet to
be done, and the mere anticipation is driving me bananas!!
