I have never had any problem "catching on" to something I wanted to
learn. I taught myself a lot about computers when I got my first one
in 1994 by reading computer newsgroups and learning about operating
systems, etc. When I visit a son's home where there are many
computers used by the kids I clean them up of all spyware and nasties
and so forth. I love to get my hands on a clogged computer and make
it run decently again I do regular maintenance on my own computer --
defrag, several anti-spyware programs, anti-virus, fire wall.

OK,
Now I am impressed. You doing the maintenance on your adult son's
computers definitely bucks the stereotype of a granny. My daughter is
a college kid at 30 pursuing no less that two Ph.D's and I still have
to advise her and fix her laptop when something goes wrong, but I was
employed as an engineer.

Bill, you are not and have never been an "engineer". For those who
don't know, Bill is well-known as a teller of tall tales in some other
newsgroups. He has *PUBLICLY* stated that he does not possess a
college degree, which is *REQUIRED* to claim the title of "Engineer".
He is not one, and everything else he says should be taken with a grain
of salt.

He's one of those guys who's done everything, and done it
faster/better/ sooner than you have, no matter what. My guess is that
he has some serious self-esteem issues. Anyway, be forewarned not to
trust too much in what he says...

Who gives a hoot? We aren't asking him to engineer anything here.

Who gives a hoot? Well, I do, for one. You don't find anything wrong
with conversing with a known liar and proven exaggerator? You actually
believe what he tells you?

Dan,

Did I say that?

I try not to make too many judgement calls about innocuous stuff I read on
the internet. There are dozens, if not hundreds or more, phonies, liars,
fakers, wannabees and worse on newsgroups. I could introduce you to a few.

What more concerns me is that we also have stalkers, forgers, and psychos.
In my book a "liar and proven exaggerator" is low on the scale of "persons
of bad repute to avoid" if that means anything to you.

Not only that, but I read and write here for entertainment. If a person is
reasonably well spoken, that puts them a step ahead of the net-nanny types.

I appreciate that you think you are warning me, in saying I shouldn't
believe Bill, and that he might not be telling the truth here. What he has
said so far hasn't been anything that would raise any alarm bells in my
mind, or to affect me or my life in any way. I have disagreed with him a
couple of times and said so. He didn't turn all ugly and go psycho like
some have done. That is in his favor.

At this point I would say he is very low on the list of offensive posters I
have known, and frankly he is a decent conversationalist, even if he lies
with every other word. As for credentials, nobody around here shows
theirs, so why should he? As I said, I am not hiring him for a job either.

Well, this is all very interesting. I had never read posts by either
Biil or Dan before. Perhaps I missed them here but I don't think so.

So Bill appears and then Dan follows and warns us not to believe Bill.

Coincidence or is Dan cyber stalking Bill?

You and I, Evelyn, have had that done to us. So it is not out of the
realm of possibiity, is it?

Exactly.

Apparently they are both well known to Sordo, who joins with Dan in his cause. Says it all in a nutshell, doesn't it?
