Health care in Las Vegas Nevada
By a resident, patient, and victim. living in Henderson NV.
I am a man who just turned 84 years old, I am blind in my left eye, and
my right eye is on the verge of doing the same, as I have been told.
There is only one possibility that this eye can possibly be saved, and
that would be by surgery.
On my very last visit to have my eyes checked, this is what I have been
told.
They suggest that I see a specialist in this field, I agreed to do so.
This first exam took place on the 23rd of Sept. of this year. I am
writing this message on Oct the 10th, 17 days later. On Sept 23rd they
made arrangements for me to see this surgeon, but it would be around two
weeks before they get the referral from the insurance company, when they
receive the referral, they will call me, and then I can set up a date to
see the surgeon. Maybe another two week with minimum.
I had made a call to inform that I have not heard anything as yet that
and was on or later than the two week period. I am still waiting as of
today.
My vision in the one eye is deteriorating rapidly, I am taking all the
medications that they prescribed but it is getting worse. I may go blind
any day now.
Is this the reason why I want to make this public ? Definitely not. No
this is a pretty normal thing, not only here in Nevada, but through out
the states. I go along with that.
I am doing this because I know I will possibly go blind soon and I am
doing this because I want to be able to see this on the internet before
this does happen.
This is about medical care that my wife Marilyn received here in Las
Vegas. Who has passed away August 28, 2005. I stroke victim for over
seventeen month's, not being able to speak or swallow and was tube fed
till her death.
Yes this is all about the care the she received here. I am including
just one incident of her treatments about a doctor Desai and the
Endoscopy center here in Nevada, one i think that is very important.
As of this time the center, and doctor Desai are under investigation, he
was ordered to discontinue his practice.
The clinic which he was involved in was shut down also, this incident is
not only local news it is known nation wide.
Following will be a webpage of mine involving this man and the clinic in
the treatment of my wife.
What is written here is true and I have records to prove it. My wife, a
stroke victim, with two mechanical heart valves in her chest, and also a
diabetic was treated in the following manner and not about me at all.
READ ON.
Marilyn Ciano, my wife was scheduled to have a swallow test, she passed
the test (but.) They told me then exactly what to do, what to give her
and how she would be allowed things to swallow like apple sauce and
puree foods. no jello, jello was water and it would go to her lungs,
there were some puddings she could have also. but absolutely no liquids
in their natural form, everything had to be thickened to honey like
consistency, coffee, tea, milk. everything. That was great to hear, but
one problem now, she still can't swallow. not even in this form, it was
very difficult for food or liquid to go down she would just spit it out.
What now Lil, I ask, (her speech therapist ?) Another test, scheduled
for some other sort of scan, endo-something-or-other, a tube with a
camera would be inserted down her throat to see if there was a blockage,
and also check for cancer. The appointment is made and kept to see the
specialist in that field, doctor Desai at his office.
I make my co-pay at the desk and we are taken to an examining room.
After a bit of a wait the doctor enters with a nurse. A look on this
man's face like he hated the world and everything that was in it. He
asks me what the problem was, ( and I told him, ) ge does not give her
any sort of examination, looks over her folder briefly, then tells the
nurse something I could not understand. He hands her the folder and
departs.
The Nurse now explains what is scheduled for her, the time, the
date and also what will be done. A simple procedure she tells me, this
will be done right in the clinic located in this same building. That day
comes, I get her ready to keep the appointment, she is very upset today,
one of those nervous nights with the screaming and yelling. I can't give
her an adavant pill because of the test. ( Adavant, ) a real strong
sedative which would put her out completely for hours on end.
We arrive at the clinic a little earlier than she is scheduled. I
try to tell the receptionist that Marilyn is having a real bad time this
morning, and would it be possible that maybe she could be called right
away. She looks at her and she can see this. She told me she
would try to get her in as soon as possible and she is called right
away, a nurse comes to wheel her into another waiting room and I follow.
"You can wait for her here Mr. Ciano, this won't take too long."
I am told by the nurse.
About a half hour later I see they are bringing her back. she has
an intravenous hooked up to her, what the hell is that, I ask myself,
more trouble ?
"Mr. Ciano, she is going to have to wait about an hour and a
half, this is an anti biotic they have to give her. The doctor wasn't
aware that she has valve replacements and needs this before proceeding."
(You mean to tell me no one saw this before hand, I think to myself.)
Hmm.
I went to get something to eat while waiting and when I returned Marilyn
is still hooked up but it's just about finished. The nurse comes to
remove the hookup, and takes her back. Another half hour goes by and
looking down the hall I see them wheeling her back, she looks like she's
had a real bad time , Before I can ask any questions the nurse said that
they couldn't go ahead with the procedure.
"She wouldn't let them put the tube down her throat, she fought it
all the way." I am told. Something about a bite block? "Didn't
they give her anything to relax her, a sedative or anything?"
"No I don't believe so, the doctor wants you to know that this has to be
done in the hospital, there they can give her something to put her to
sleep for the test, we will make all the arrangements and let you know
the date and time."
"You're telling me they tried to force that thing down her throat
without giving her anything and especially being in the state she is in
today. God look at her! Are you people crazy, how could you have even
tried without a sedative at the very least. " The day comes, I get
the call for the test, where and when, it was to be at Sunrise Hospital.
We get there and check in, they are ready to take her right away.
"Marilyn, don't be frightened, this won't be anything like the
last time, they will put you to sleep, you won't feel or know a thing.
They told me it will only be a few minutes for the test, they will take
some pictures and it will be all over, I'll be right out here waiting
for you Hon, OK."
Her eyes are filling up as I kiss her and let go of the tight grip
she has on my hand, I don't know how long it will actually take, maybe I
can go to the cafeteria here and grab a cup of coffee. No, I had better
not, if they bring her out and I'm not here she's going to get frantic.
I had better wait.
It's over, she's back. The nurse tells me. "They want you to know that
they can't see anything there to prevent her from swallowing, they don't
see any lumps, and no sign's of cancer.
"Where's the doctor, don't they usually come out to tell you how it
went?"
"He's very busy, do you want me to see if I can get him out to
talk to you, but it may be a while."
"Yes I want to see him, I want to talk to him." I can see he
is annoyed that I wanted to see him, he has a picture in hand that he
shows me, this picture had a couple of very bright red spots in her
throat. He tells me they can't see anything to prevent her from
swallowing, and she has no cancer. I ask him about the spots, nothing to
worry about, just irritations, maybe from the test he tells me.
A follow up appointment was made to see doctor Desai that arranged this
test, it would be a couple of weeks away. We get there on that day, I
sign her in and make the usual twenty dollar co-pay (in advance.) We are
called and brought in to the examining room. "Why-you-here?" He asks
me.
"I guess for a follow up, they made an appointment for you to see
my wife" I tell him. He looks at her records briefly. "No
cancer, no lumps!" And walks on out. What the hell is wrong with this
jerk? No questions, no answers, no exam or check up. He's gone, just
like that, why did I bother to come here ? I go back to the
receptionist and I tell her. "I wish to have a refund on my co-pay
please."
"Whats the problem Mr.Ciano, what's wrong ?"
"I'll tell you whats wrong, this is our second visit with this man,
and he didn't spend five minutes total with us on both the visits. He
gave me no opportunity to ask any questions or get any answers. He
didn't give me a chance to ask anything, just walks out on me" I tell
her.
She leaves her desk and after a few minutes she is back with some
another woman.
"I'm sorry the doctor wasn't able to spend the time with you, If you
sign this receipt you will be refunded the co-pay." I signed and was
given back the twenty.
Here is a woman, a stroke victim, a portion of her brain dead,
completely dead, no healing, no repair, no cure, along with other very
serious health problems as mentioned.
She was just a number going through a production line as far as I
was concerned, not as a patient needing health care.
This was not the only incident, my wife suffered, there were many
of these during her last 17 months. These are some of the reasons why I
took care of her myself at home. I could not bear to see the treatment
that she would receive. I was even told by a doctor at one of the places
she was in. "Quote" - "Take her home Mr Ciano I know you will give her
better care than she receives here." End of "Quote"
Sincerely
Vincent Ciano
