Re: Republican YouTube Debate Tonight

Yes. They are slowly but surely turning into real rivals, all of them.
It is a turnoff to see them get down and dirty and pandering to various
factions, rather than dealing with the REAL threats to our nation and its
peace.

One aspect of the debate really annoys me. The questions about literal,
word for word belief in the bible, suppression of gays, and of course the
abortion issues and gun control. These things are in my opinion, the
LEAST of our worries. Those are things to wrangle out later.....during
peacetime.

We should be talking about the overwhelming national debt, the present and
impending health care crisis, the upcoming social security crunch, and of
course, the endless war in Iraq, not to mention the huge number of wounded
veterans who will need continuing health care and disability payments for
many years yet to come, and what on earth to do with 12 million illegals in
our midst, and how to deal with the unprecedented number of home
foreclosures, not to mention the money drain, the devaluation of the dollar
and what it means to our lifestyle and economy. Those are big issues.
They touched on a couple of them, but not in a way that sufficiently
satisfied my concerns.

What I did notice was the young fellow who asked the gun question, whose
youtube question showed unsafe handling of his weapon as noted by one of the
candidates (can't remember who it was). It showed quite clearly that more
control is needed. I firmly believe in the right to bear arms, but I also
believe that it must be regulated in terms of safe handling of firearms, not
to mention that emotionally unstable, criminal elements, and children should
have NO access to weapons if at all possible.

Did you notice that Huckabee got Jerry Falwell's endorsement? He seems
like a very nice man, but I know what Falwell represents, and if Huckabee
has his endorsement, I should think it would be like the proverbial "kiss of
death" considering the awful mess the current fundamentalist administrative
regime has put us in.

It is much easier for the republicans to cater to the religious nuts than to
consider doing something about the real problems facing us. Of course the
democrates aren't much better. I think they have all decided there are no
solutions so they don't even bother thinking or talking about them.
Paraphrasing Shakespeare "a pox on all their houses".
