Rita - just briefly - you misinterpret what I am trying to convey to
Evelyn. As a counter-argument, you always bring up the Chistian Right.
why quote an extreme example to prove your point - and hers. I despise
the Christian Right - for the same reasons you mentioned.
My views are far simpler, and have nothing to do with the Christian
Right. I feel I have no right to deny the average person the comfort of
clinging to their religion if that is what they need. That should not
be so hard to understand, and makes no reference whatsoever to the far,
religious Right - so, your counter argument does not change my mind -
nor will a thousand abstract quotes from Buddha. Mine is a very simple
view.

Interesting that you choose to agree with what Rita says, when she and I are saying the same thing almost word for word, yet continue to argue with me about something OTHER than what I said.
None of what I quoted was even remotely a collection of "abstract" bits, it was a cohesive whole speech, an entire sutta, or an entire teaching, exactly as it was spoken 2500 years ago. It is quite famous as the Kalama sutta. It can be found online easily enough to prove it.
