Well stated, Olly. I saw the interview and formed much the same
opinion as you did...
Anytime a black person who has a position of authority doesn't
start shouting "racist" or promoting an "agenda" , they are
severely criticized by those who think that the color of their
skin requires them to bias their opinions.
I haven't seen anything from Thomas to make me think that
he is anything other than an intelligent man trying to do the best job
he
can without any "agenda", either leftist or rightist... I agree with
him sometimes, and disagree at other times, but that is
simply a reflection of my on pre-dispositions, and not of
Thomas's biases.....
I don't know if he acted improperly with Anita Hill or not,
and I don't really care..... Hell, you can imagine all the "improper"
stuff that I, myself, did 40 years ago... ( in some people's minds -
---- :>))))) "... Just some bad judgement based on immaturity.....
which worked it's way out of my personality as I grew older...
I readily give Thomas the same tolerance I have for myself...
However, to put things into perspective, just comparing his
interview with that of, for instance, the ex-attorney general,
shows the difference in ....... polish .... that some politically
sensitive leaders have... Thomas isn't a "chatty" sort of
fellow. What some may view as "passiveness", I tend to
think of as "thoughtfullness" ---- a man that prefers to
think through a problem rather than start out by
rattling off at the mouth about it....... like many politicians
in both parties...
