Evelyn - one of my two sons has had sleep apnea for years. Luckily, a
couple of years ago, he not only had some minor surgery in his
nose/throat, but was given a "mask" - a hideous thing, really - which he
wears every night , and through he can breathe quite well. Fortunately,
he is very good about wearing this awful mask, nightly, and, when he
travels, takes it with him; it does help the breathing.
Some doctors feel that sleep apnea, if not treated and helped by those
masks, can eventually affect the heart. So - listen to your doctor.
also, in case your doctor did not mention this - they do offer "sleep
labs" - which my son has done twice already - where you spend the night,
and they wire you up, and watch you, and it can be determined how your
sleep apnea is doing - or not. This is very important, and I would
suggest it to you.
Olly
Olly, my oldest son uses one of those machines. He insists it has changed his life. It creates a positive air pressure, which helps them keep the airways open. I still haven't gone for the test, but it does sound like something that might be good in my case.
