Mom is in distress

Hi Everyone,

My mom is 86 years old and had a major rheumatoid arthritis attack
this summer. The pain has gone away but it has left her lifeless.
She sleeps all day, fights like an animal when we try to get her out
of bed, and refuses to eat. We literally have to force feed her and
she spits the food out. She is emaciated and very weak. When we get
her out of bed, she can't even stand up and falls.

We've tried to expose her to as much stimuli as possible by getting
her up to watch television and playing her books on CD (she has
macular degeneration and cannot see).

I understand that this sort of thing can happen to people in her age
group. Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas to remedy the
situation.

Any feedback is much appreciated.

Thanks

.
