- I have a problem with light-headedness, which has caused several

fact that they allow almost two hours between delivering you to a given
area of stores, and picking you up again - and - there is no way I can
be on my feet that long, so have to look for a bench. Not every store
has benches - those which do, have only one or two - and most of the
time, they are occupied. What to do?? I will surely pass out if I keep
standing on my feet while waiting for the shuttle!!! And THAT is my
dilemma. I have tried a little thing-a-ma-jig, which looks like a cane,
but also has a tiny seat, if needed. I have it here, and it is far too
unsteady to be safe for me. Sooooo - I get my groceries from Peapod,
which is a subsidiary of Stop and Shop
which is a large food chain, and Peapod delivers to my door - at
alarming prices!!!! My kids - who live only 20 minutes away, feel I
ought to use the shuttle, and not worry about falling down. The glass
is half empty - or half full!!!! They are ridiculous; I cannot afford
to take that chance - so I depend on delivery, at $9.95 extra for each
delivery!! BUT - it also means that I am fairly isolated here - never
get out, and it is a good thing that I am not claustrophobic!! There
are activities and lots of people here - but I thoroughly dislike the
activities (Bingo,,etc.!!) and have not yet met anyone to my liking!!!!
It has not gotten beyond discussisons (in the elevators) about the
weather!! and,s to add insujlt to injury, his place is terribly
expensive.
That is my story - - the other side of the coin is, however, that I
should not complain (!!!) since I live in a protected environment; feel
quite safe here, and do have the opportunity to have a bit of
entertainment and meet people right within my building; guess I am a
snob!!!! My kids both work, and are incredibly busy and preoccupied -
so I see them only occasionally - for brief visits - - but not for
taking me out!!!!
BUT - at my age - I should not complain; I have lots of entertainment
possibilities for myself, right in y apt., the last of which was
recently given to me by my sons, and it is a keyboard, which truly
sounds like a piano. (more or less) ; I have a good stereo, ;my little
webtv;(which I love) a DVD, and rent movies from Netflix, and a CD
player with lots of CD's with Pavarotti!!!! So, I should not complain -
- but, after a while, one longs to get out, and the trips they do offer
here (and there are many) are not only far too costly, but also too
strenuous for me. Most people here are a bit younger than I am. I could
be langushing in a Nursing Home, at my age, and I keep telling myself
that, to overcome my frustration!!! Hate the Senior Centre and its
ridiculous activities, and hate myself for being so snotty, and making
my life unnecessarily difficult for myself - but that's me!!!!

Your complaints all sound legitimate to me. You have been independent
for many years and to find yourself in these circumstances now, where
one has to rely on someone else for the barest of necessitites, would
be difficult for anyone. I too have been independent for years and
would truely hate to depend on others for basic needs. Your story only
affirms my thoughts on getting old. It sucks. I might suggest that you
DO try to meet more people in your bldg in hopes that you will find a
friend with compatible interests. There are several intelligent people
in this ng, but in real life most of the old people I meet are not
interested in discussing current news or other things that interest
me.
