As we age, some of our habits become a comfort zone and won't be
ditched for anyone.
My good buddy started dating a swell fella. A great help around the
place and a good dancer.
It wasn't until he started spending a lot of time at her place that she
realized all he really wanted to do was watch game shows and reruns
of cop programs.
He was gone in no time.

I have a boyfriend, but we choose not to live together. We tried it
once and discovered we are too set in our ways. Now, we see each
other several times a week and always enjoy our time together. We do
enjoy travel together and just returned from Oregon where we went for
my sister's 50th wedding anniversary. But, he enjoys sports and I
don't.

That seems to be the case for many mature adults.
We each have our ways and preferences - not necessarily compatible
with anyone else. Your method is probably the best choice.
