coach said all the team members had to go and buy jock straps
(aka athletic supporters)..

So I took Mike to a sporting goods store and the lady there asked
him what size he needed. Mike, of course, had no idea, so she handed
him a cloth tape measure and told him to go into the dressing room and
measure himself..

When Mike returned, he proudly announced " SIZE THREE " !!!!!!!!

That was nearly 30 years ago, and I still call him "Size Three"
sometimes....
