Test
All that feedback just because Mary Jo wanted to test her news reader.

Someone using Forte Agent ought to be sophisticated enough to know basic netiquette regarding posting test questions.
Alan, you are being astonishingly, nit-pickingly silly about this.
Evelyn
And you, Evelyn are being astonishingly judgmental to infer that what annoys me is less than it ought to be, simply because the same thing does not annoy you. Perhaps it would be best if we leave 'to each his own,' and decide for ourselves what is an annoyance and what is not. And that done, do not try to project our decisions on others.
I enjoy your posts very much Alan, and frankly, though tempests in teapots strike me as a waste of time, but if that is what you like, go for it.
To paraphrase a saying, Evelyn, "watch the pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves." If you don't watch the pennies, you won't have any dollars to worry about. I trust you get the gist of those comments in view of yours.
OH ALAN! That was what my miserly ex husband used to say! LOL!
:-)
Aside from the jest, I do understand where you are coming from but I still think that usenet is too big to try and "police" with complaints about test posts. There are genuine trolls, evil people (and we know who they are) and all sorts of nasties out there.
Some things are just too small to fuss about, unless you are into shoveling you know what against the tide.
But seriously, I appreciate your posts and for the most part, we are in agreement on a lot of it.
Evelyn, all I intended to say is that one witty, illustrative saying supporting one's point deserves its rebuke with another. It's a polite form of "one upsmanship." However, as they say, ignorance is no excuse, and perhaps the original poster didn't know about netiquette, and the proper place to post test messages. Although I doubt that, one, because the poster was using a somewhat sophisticated and specialized newsreader, not expected tobe found in a novice, and second, as the names are not familiar, and may very well be trolls. Given the benefit of the doubt, my post was instructive, hopefully.
But I do thank you for your compliment, and I too enjoy your participation, even in threads where I simply lurk.
Do you suppose that it could have been the first time she used that
"specialized" news reader?
Whether or not you used a new and different newsreader has no bearing on WHERE you ought to have posted your test message, and that you SHOULD have been sufficiently conversant with "netiquette' and Usenet itself. Fact remains, you weren't. In truth, THAT is one of the reasons why news:alt.test was created; so that people like yourself could 'practice' using a new newsreader, without inserting needless and irrelevant bandwidth into NG's and where participants have other objectives.
Your criticism, time and efforts could be directed at more meaningful
situations.
My criticisms, time and efforts would have been unnecessary had YOU expended the time and effort to educate yourself more fully about the medium you are using. And I will decide what is meaningful for myself; not you.
