Many ISP's (AOL e.g) have discontinued usenet service so you are stuck with Google groups to gain access. Google should take some responsibilty in filtering messages otherwiise they might findig themselves facing the same problems that led to the discontinuance of the service by the ISP's.
Does AOHell not allow you to use Mozilla Thunderbird as a news reader ?
It's free and very flexible. You can use your real address for private e-mails
and another, bogus one for newsgrouping.

Try http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Oldfolkhome/ This goup is for those of us that have our own opinons about matters that concern us and that can express them without resorting to name calling, insults and vile language. It is hoped that those posting on this forum would have the respect to simply post their opinions rather than engage in the disparagement of the opinions of others.
It would help a great deal, if when responding each person would remove all other groups from the address line to reduce cross posting and the nastier, cross responding.
I never see cross posts. I use a little free program called Nfilter that
allows the filtering out of all cross posts in all newsgroups. It is a
tiny, unobtrusive program that you use along with your news reader -
in effect, it intercepts all usenet posts coming in on port 119 and
those posted to more than one group you do not see in your news
reader.
