I don't understand programmers, they don't think like engineers.
Why does a new OS need to be all or nothing, couldn't Windows8
include modes for dos, windows-7 and iPod type? As an
application set needs upgrading to take advantage of the new OS
it should happen seamlessly with selection mode migration. We
don't need the gee whiz applications immediately, they can, just
like universal Medicare, be phased in. MS should remember that
market share consists of keeping old customers as well as taking
away Apple users.

you have missed the point completely.

the future lies with monile.
both apple and m$oft are moving their OS
for personal somputing to a mobile first startegy. the result is
on OS which is awkward on classic PXs.

the programmers did exactly what was asked of them.

this disease has infected linyx as well: i have stopped upgrading ubuntu
because the releases after 11.4 foillow that direction. i may have to
retreat to debian to stay with a classic desktop.

Check out Linux Mint. I moved to Mint after Ubuntu came out with Unity.

It looks OK, perhaps a dual boot vista, mint and migrate as needed. Unfortunately a search revealed a lot of install failures. If anyone comes up with a package of instruction that they got to work, please post. Most packaged instructions aren't tested and consequently leave out or misplace steps.
