My doctor has given me a couple of EKGs, but they're something like
four seconds long and I remain unconvinced that such a short tracing
can be worth much.
It can be worth a great deal. It can discover such things as atrial
flutter or fibrillation, a leaky valve etc. and most important it
serves as a base line should you come in 3 months later with chest
pains.

4 beats is insufficient - if there is a r/o diagnosis of conduction
defect, anomaly or related cardiomyopathies, either a 12 lead 3 minute
supine or a 24 Holter should be used. Your doc made some money on
this deal but did little to help make a diagnosis.
