I can think of several psychological interpretations for your
aberrations, but then - I can also think of many of my own - - so,
while
you are plagued by swallowing live creatures- I am plagued by NOT
being
able to do so- yet do do so, in many disguised forms. We're both

help!!!
What the heck!!!!........:-)

Olly, the eating habits of some posters remind me of what Mark Twain
once said about the California Indians:
"...All things have their uses and their part and proper place in
Nature's economy: the ducks eat the flies--the flies eat the
worms--the Indians eat all three-- ...."
At least the Indians killed their food :-)
The Indians ate oysters and clams too.
They knew what was good!
Twain concluded his observation :
..." --the wild cats eat the Indians--the white folks eat the wild
cats--and thus all things are lovely...."
Don't y'all know what the bible says about eating "fish without
scales" ?
I not only don't believe in the bible, but I ate a huge lobster tail last
night. It was so delicious I can't tell you. Dipped the chunks in lemon
butter. Accompanied only by a really nice tossed salad. Hubby and I
bought two huge lobster tails for $24 last week at Sam's club. Where on
earth could one get that much lobster for $12 apiece in any restaurant?
It
was delicious.
To me a great treat is asparagus spears smothered in butter with
cantaloupe for desert. I eat meat, but I take no pride in it.
Gary,
I don't "take pride" in it either but I have come to realize that we are
creatures who survive by eating other creatures, and live in acceptance of
that thought.
I know a lot of vegetarians, and all of them are gray in complexion and
usually not healthy looking in general. I refuse to feel guilty for eating
according to my health's best interest, but I make every effort to respect
the fact that meat was formerly another living being. There is a
fascinating essay written by Alan Watts called "Murder in the Kitchen" and
he explores the concept of meat eating and meat avoidance, in great
philosophical detail, and all the while being both respectful of other
living beings, as well as humorous.
He said (paraphrased) that if you cook a chicken and you don't cook it
properly, that chicken has died in vain. If more people were respectful of
the meat they eat, it would be a better world. Another thing, I do try to
buy meat which is not from factory farms whenever possible. I buy natural
free range chickens and grass fed beef because it is kinder to the animals.
I NEVER eat veal. Have not eaten veal in many years, purely because of the
cruel way it is raised.
There is a middle way between just eating whatever and however, and
respecting living beings. That said, if you are a person who does better
by eating an omnivorous diet, acceptance of that fact, and setting some sort
of ground rules for what, why and how, is probably wiser than walking around
feeling guilty, or regarding meat eating as some sort of a bad thing.
It's "original sin", secular version. Christian theology in its
pure form says that animals don't have souls, so you can
kill them and torture them all you want. They have a stupid
version of "original sin" to make up for the lack of a real one.
Shelley gave up meat one time on moral grounds, but this
was aroound 1820 when nobody in Europe knew anything
about nutrition. He made himself very ill and had to give it
up, with forceful urging by his wife and friends.
Life feeds on life. Fran Leibowitz had a piece on plants
once. One of the characteristics she listed was "make
their own food". She found that smug, and it didn't
favourably dispose her toward plants.
