There was just a piece on NOW about a Muslim guy in
England, who'd had to ride his bicycle 19 miles each day
for years to report to the police. He couldn't even find out
what the supposed evidence against him was until
recently. As he said, he knew he hadn't done anything
wrong, he had no idea why he was supposed to be a
terrorist candidate and he couldn't find out why. When he
finally did get the information, it turned out to be something
he and his mom had known about for ages but had
dismissed as a possible reason for why he would be under
scrutiny, that a friend of his mothers had turned him in for
thinking about going to Syria, and that put him on a terrorist
watch list. His home had been raided several times over
the years, and his marriage was destroyed. His wife and
kids are living away from him and his wife is on suicide
watch because of all the pressure of the constant
surveillance. He lost all his friends because they were
afraid of being around somebody who was under police
surveillance as a possible terrorist. It's all right out of Kafka.
