Dawkin's most recent book was "The God Delusion" and, yes, it was
primarily about religion. I agreed with him, but thought that he could
have done a better job.

I have The Ancestor's Tale, but have not ventured into it yet. I'm
reading more on the political themes lately. Just now, I am reading
Krugman's "Conscience of a Liberal." An excellent mix of political
history and economics. I can understand how he won the Nobel Prize!

My next book will be "Redefining Health Care" by Porter & Teisberg. It
was recommended by a right wing friend, so I am apprehensive. The last
book that I read that was recommended by another right wing friend was
"The Devil's Delusion" by Berlinski. That one infuriated me! I was
also just given "Out of Mao's Shadow" by Pan. My next door neighbor
gave it to me before leaving for Peking where he and his wife are in
business.

So many books, so little time!
True, but we have to try. My reading for the past two months (60
days)

Corpus Delicti
Hunting of Cain
Gotti - Rise and Fall
All His Father's Sins
Onion Field
Adams v Texas
Conscience of a Liberal
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
Death of an American
Mormon Murders
Final Justice

BTW, Islander, on another thread you request digital books. This is
a new site I only discovered recently, but it looks good.

Thanks, Gary.

How did you like Conscience of a Liberal? I am loving it!

I really enjoyed it. It was especially interesting to me how Truman's
health care was defeated in the 1940s. A coalition of AMA and
Southern segregationists did it. Once again showing how people
will shoot themselves in the foot just to prevent other people from
having anything. That may make people feel good -- but it's not
indicative of normal intelligence.

Yes, Krugman tends to place a lot of blame on racial prejudice, not just
then, but now too.

I have a theory -- based on a fact. The fact is that racial
prejudice has always helped the rich to maintain a large and cheap
labor pool. The theory is that without the help of the Planter class
to tell the yeoman just how bad the Blacks are/were, we may never
have had much racism. It all comes down to money.

On Face the Nation yesterday, there was a small editorial by Schieffer
on how LBJ would have done health care reform. Schieffer didn't mention
that LBJ pretty much turned the South over to the Republicans.

As you know, I spent some time in the South

Yeah, Georgia Tech if memory serves. I have two brothers who
graduated there in the early 1950s.

and I'll never understand
how anyone would want to live there.

I love living here. Good weather, great fauna and flora, good
people and great culture. I agree some things we do are not all
that intelligent. When it comes to politics -- there is a
masochistic streak in the Southern voter. With very few exceptions,
we vote for people and ideas that are not in our best interest. Why ?
I'm working on the answer to that, myself.
