US economy 'could recover by 2010'

Bernanke's comments come as US consumer
confidence hit an all time low [AFP]

The US economy is undergoing a "severe contraction" but could recover
by 2010 if swift action is taken, the US Federal Reserve chairman has
said.

. . .

If I had some eggs I could have ham and eggs, if I had some ham.

I wouldn't mind claiming that one as an original, but the truth is I
heard someone else say it -- it was on TV I think. Here are some
originals, though:

If Saddam had WMDs we could invade based on WMDs and his support of
terrorists, if he supported terrorists.

We could get Bin Laden and install a democracy in Afghanistan, if Ben
Laden was in Afghanistan and we could install a democracy.

If we could get tax cuts, we could get tax cuts that pay for
themselves. if tax cuts paid for themselves.

All meaty variations.

I love it when the TV says we have to keep troops in
Iraq to keep out Al Qaeda. Nobody ever seems to
mention that we killed the guy who used to do a
bang-up job of keeping Al Qaeda out of Iraq, at no cost
to us in blood or treasure, and though at cost to his own
people in blood and treasure, at nothing like the cost
to his own people in blood and treasure that ensued
when we got involved.
