I buy quite a few items online. I don't own a car, hate to
shop even if I am ferried to stores by my son, and like to compare
items online. I always look first for free shipping which more
and more online merchants are offering. But shipping costs don't
deter me from a purchase if the price is right and the item is
exactly what I am looking for. There is great convenience having
it delivered to my door. I recently ordered a table lamp online.
Amazon has free shipping on many items if the cost is above a
certain amount. I have always been pleased with Amazon and prefer
to order from them than merchant sites I don't know.
So everything is relative, isn't it? The shipping costs I do pay
can't possibly more than a tiny fraction of the money I would put out
owning a car.
I do have a question about EBay. Do you have to establish a Pay
Pal account to do business on it? Or do those selling accept
credit cards?
I've been paying Paypal with a credit card, and I've bought
stuff 15 or 20 times already. I don't plan to take out a Pay Pal
Account because it seems they want either your Social
Security Number or your Bank Account info, neither of which
I want to hand out like candy.
I would like to sell some stuff on EBay eventually. I might
be willing albeit grudging to hand over my bank account
info for that, or maybe just take out a new bank account
that I use only for PayPal, and don't connect to my other
accounts or keep much money in.
My husband uses a Pay Pal account all the time and has had it for years with
no problem. You just only put enough money into it for the transaction you
are making. Apparently it is a secure arrangement, and of course they
would require your personal info for that.
I would not give anyone more information than my credit card # as I do
in other online transactions. Plus name, address.
There are scams around to get people to release their bank account
and social security numbers and anyone who does that is crazy.

They aren't a scam, Rita. Thousands of people rely on pay pal and a good many decent internet sellers use it and respect it. Look into it and you will see.
