The reason people are turning to alternatives is because they are
completely
dissatisfied with the state of modern medicine and the way it is
practiced.
The production line doctors office, the expensive drugs, the
hospital
mistakes and infections acquired in hospitals...... the list goes
on.
So
they go back to the old ways.
And by the way, Herbs ARE drugs, and in many cases drugs were
developed
from
herbal medicines.

The current medical situation represents a complete
breakdown in allowing a single system of medicine,
Oh?
Do you possess a shred of evidence indicating the percent of americans
who didn't buy into the shoddy bill of goods being sold by the
criminal cartel known as the American Medical Association has ever
dipped below 40%?

I noticed that I have been responding to cross posters from the
alternative
health group. I don't subscribe to that group and I have no interest
in
participating in discussions with any of you folks, although I have used
alternative medicines many times, and successfully, I don't believe it
is
the be all and end all. Too many dead friends would testify to that.
I
will no longer be responding to this thread or to any of you from that
group.
lol. Evelyn, It was entertaining.
Whether you stop responding or not, if they are sincere about all this
alternative mumbo jumbo, they will stop responding sooner then later.
Why do people waste their money and hope on such mumbo jumbo?
(CROSS POSTS TRIMMED)
There is good reason for some of these alternatives, and sometimes they
work
because of the placebo effect and sometimes they work because there are
some
real honest to goodness up front effects of the treatments.
I had a friend who did Reiki on my foot when I suffered from the worst
case
of plantar fasciitis, having had shots of cortisone and limped around for
a
couple of months in agony. She absolutely CURED my plantar fasciitis in
one session. I have absolutely no idea why or how it worked. It hasn't
returned in several years!!!!!! Now that was success.
Herbs really are medicines. They definitely work, and they are real
chemicals. Problem is that people think they are harmless vegetable
substances and mix them up with their medications, and can actually create
an overdose problem, or a conflict with their regular medication. You
really need a lot of knowledge to take herbs properly. I had a lot of
books
and a lot of knowledge about them, and there is a medicinal herb farm, run
by a famous herbalist, right up the road from me, where they give seminars
on herbal medicine.
Chiropractors (spelled properly) are the best thing for a backache, but if
you recently suffered an injury, you should get an X-ray to make sure you
didn't break a vertebra or something. I have had back problems for years
and got excellent results from a chiropractor.
As far as homeopathic stuff is concerned, I think it is utter nonsense,
but
some have claimed good results.
Strange to say, acupuncture has worked for me one time very well, and
other
times not at all. Depends what you ask of it. When I had a shattered
shoulder it didn't do much for the pain.
As for the gazillion other kinds of alternative therapies, I really don't
know. As I told the other person, I know too many dead friends who went
alternative in dealing with cancer. The ones who did chemo and radiation
are still with us. The others are dead.
The one woman who went with a group to the great pyramid to have amazing
spiritual awakenings in the Kings Chamber, who declared she was healed, is
now dead of the cancer that she first had diagnosed before she went
through
all that stuff.
The friend who has been going through years and years of alternative (you
name it she tried it) just discovered last week that for over 20 years she
has had Hep C.
For anyone who is considering alternative therapies..... go ahead and do
it
to feel good. Do it as an adjunct to real medicine. Go to a real
doctor
and get real treatment. ESPECIALLY if it is a life threatening illness.

There is a never ending line of those willing to sell hope to another
never ending line of people. We get so many years and trying to cheat
reality with all the plastic surgery, colonic or other fads of the
day, quacks and such is just silly. If someone special gets sick with
cancer or whatever, it is time to put all the effort out to understand
the problem and find best solutions. Sometimes the solutions are not
available and when our time is up, it seems better not to give up
precious resources to quacks. Better to leave them for the living is
my view.
Just within the last two weeks an elderly dear lady friend just had breast
cancer surgery. She has opted for no radiation and no chemo. She says if
it takes her, it takes her. Not sure that I necessarily agree with her,
but it isn't my choice to make, and she is no dummy, she knows what she
wants.
This past week, another dear friend, only a little older than I am, had her
second surgery for bladder cancer. She is doing chemo and radiation and
will be expecting repeated surgeries as this tends to recur but not beyond
the area where it is now. It's a miserable thing.
I really don't understand much about cancer. But, thought getting the
surgery was really a preliminary to chemo and radiation???
A good friend did have prostate cancer and described the day him and
wife spent with doctors at Walter Reed. The docs walked them thru all
the alternatives and possible outcomes/side effects. In the end, he
opted for some radioactive pellets inserted somewhere and I really did
not want many more details when he began describing how the pellets
were inserted!
But, seems there are certain protocols of treatment that are available
and getting smart up front is the best approach to me.
As result of my friend's experience and description, I dropped out of
Kaiser plan and joined Tricare and also use Walter Reed. I can say
from my two experiences there so far, the stuff that was passed out
about that place not caring or treating vets is swamp gas. A massive
complex and hive of activity and from what I saw, tremendous number of
very caring people there.
A year ago a very dear friend died of pancreatic cancer.
I understand from son in law and others that one can survive many
parts of the body having problems but problems with pancreas kills
fast.
If it were me, I would treat to a limited degree, but the people I have seen
go through repeated rounds of chemo, endless disfiguring surgeries, untold
pain, misery and expense, only to die of it anyway...... have made me think
that if this sort of thing should strike me sometime, I might just as well
take your approach and let be what will be.
If it comes to cancer, don't go on anything you have seen!! Don't let
any doc rush you into something until you and family really know what
alternatives are available and outcomes. That was lesson friend
taught me about his prostate cancer experience at Walter Reed. Also,
if it comes to serious stuff, I believe both husband and wife should
be in those sessions and not just told results later. People survive
cancer for decades now and have very good years of life.
Like High Miles always says, any day on this side of the grass is a good
day!
Naaa. It is "waking up with a pulse"
