An Interesting Point

Someone made the point that while the government can provide a whole bunch of new money to start a whole bunch of new spending on things like infrastructure, that none of that spending can even get out of the starting gate, without first doing an evironmental impact study. In the days of Roosevelt there was no such thing, so whatever "construction funding" the government wanted to do, they could do, without the need to jump through these new environmental hoops, so there was little delay in getting the money to where it would create jobs. But that is not the case today. The government can "allocate" the money, but it is going to be spent as quckly as it was possible during the Roosevelt years. There are also a whole lot more regulations that can slow down the start of any project, which did not exist during the Roosvelt years. So, it seems to me, that it is possible that by the time the money actually does any good, the current crisis may be a thing of the past.
