First of all, cut this "you people" nonsense. I am myself and I speak for
myself.
As for filtering people, mostly I don't. I just ignore them, but even I
have my limits. It is still none of your business who I talk to, who I
filter, or not. You may think it is because you can read my postings, but
it isn't your business or your right to tell me who to filter and who not.

I guess I don't normally run into conservatives, or they speak
very differently in person than they do on this newsgroup. It's
probably more the former, since San Francisco is at least 80%
"liberal" (Democratic). It's populated largely by people, gay
and straight, who moved here for just that reason.
I have a lot of people in my killfile, most assuredly including
Jim Stevens. If people don't like that, tough - it's none of their
affair. I count 44 entries in my killfile, though several are
general spam-catchers, and I use NewsProxy to block
crossposted messages from getting through at all. Anybody
who wants to killfile me is free to do so; you certainly won't
see me crybabying about it like Jim Stevens.
Hi Rumple,
Because I am a practicing buddhist and have an interest in philosophy, and because I often mention that, and provide quotes pertaining to ideal attitudes and behaviors, certain individuals here (who shall remain nameless) seem inclined to depict me as some sort of holy phony who never ever curses or gets angry. They seem to imagine that I never experience or express normal emotions such as frustration or anger or even just plain old feeling feisty. No matter how many times I say that is not the way I am, they continue to call me on things.
I am a normal human being and (like everyone else) just because I know the right thing to do or say, I don't always engage my brain before I open my mouth (or hit that send key). But unlike many, I do try. I do care about people in general, and don't really come here with the intention to harm or insult. I apologize freely if I was wrong, and have done so many times.
That said, my mama didn't raise no fool, and if someone behaves like an *** they shouldn't be surprised if I treat them like one. That may involve anything from politely ignoring them, plonking them forever, or occasionally letting fly with a good zinger at the right moment. Conservative stuffed shirts seem to just draw that sort of thing like flypaper. :-)
But all in all, there definitely is good conversation to be had here. Too many nice ones to name. I won't let the problem people spoil it, not while I have a perfectly good working killfile, as well as the "virtual" killfile like Hal mentioned. If I cut someone dead, I usually have given up on them. I treat nice people nicely. No matter what side of the political aisle they occupy.
