More good news for Obama on the early voting front: It's been extended
in North Carolina, reports the Charlotte Observer.

North Carolina Republicans, predictably, are outraged by the extension
-- not because Obama is leading McCain in early voting in the state by
59%-33%, as of two days ago -- but because they say they're worried
about the stressed out election officials.

Just so everybody understands how it worked, county election officials were
contacted by their state counterparts and asked if they would have any
problem with extending the early voting termination time by four hours.
They, in turn, contacted their officials working in the early voting centers
for their feedback. Those who said "yes" were allowed to close at the
originally established time, and those who said "no" are going to be
permitted to remain open for an additional four hours tomorrow.

So, in effect, the decision to extend was made by the election officials
working in each early voting center as an optional matter. Sounds to me
like NC Republicans are displaying their usual knee jerk negative reactions
to a Democratic administration proposal when, in fact, the decision is
actually made at the lowest of levels. Surely, those local officials who
felt stressed would've said "no, thank you" when they were given the option.
Once again, uncalled for crocodile tears from our Republican brethren.
