Hi Florida,

There are different kinds of arguments used in formal debate. The LOWEST is the kind called "ad hominem" ..... It is the last resort of someone who is trying to put forth a weak idea and doing it badly, so they attack the person themself. That is what the 'german shepherd' remark was. It shows a weakness of ideas, and the person feels cornered, thus fights unfairly. Nobody is fooled by it, but the person making such a remark feels good for about a half a second. It is a waste of time to read it.

Yep, personal attacks are the worst and your side seems to be doing the most of it. I said that someone sounded like an idiot in another thread because that was exactly what he was doing to me and you defended him. Now you say that is wrong. So why were you defending him?

When you get off the porch to play with the big dogs - especially on
Usenet, you have to be prepared for anything, and use your killfile
with abandon.
If you hold opinions that someone thinks are unacceptable, you can
expect them to assume you are an idiot and tell you so.
You can't take it personally.

I love the way you slammed Ev with - "your side seems to be doing most
of it "
You have determined who belongs where already ?
Yea, it really isn't too hard.

This ain't a pissin' contest here.
No?

Just a bunch of old people banging
the keyboards, instead of arguing in the park.

If you can't handle personal attacks or being called vile names, perhaps
you need to find a ....................gentler group ?
You'll notice I don't do that, people only resort to that when they cannot debate the point. It's really pretty nasty too, or don't you agree?

I've been posting to this group for nine years or so and many
others have as well.

Obviously we relish the chance to let our opinions all hang out
and have a good scrap.

If you don't like the atmosphere, then you are silly to hang around.

Toughen up. I consider it good entertainment.

Rita,

It's fine to let you opinions all hang out, but you lose your creditability when you resort to personal attacks. That just is not called for and I don't do that no matter how much I disagree with you. No, I'll post here as much as I want.
