The unexpectedly steep climb in the unemployment rate underlines how a
continuing deterioration in housing markets continues to chill
economic growth. The last time the jobless rate was higher was in March 2004 when it

Businesses shed 51,000 jobs; unemployment rate up to 5.7%
By Jeannine Aversa, AP Economics Writer
WASHINGTON — The nation's unemployment rate climbed to 5.7% in July, highest in
more than four years, as employers cut payrolls for a seventh month,
though the losses were less than predicted, according to a government
report in Friday.
The Labor Department said 51,000 non-farm jobs were eliminated in
July, bringing losses for the year to 463,000. ____________________________________________________
And you're gonna vote Republican? Goodness, what are you thinking?
Harry
Harry, those having incomes less than $250,000/year with most of it from wages who vote Republican, clearly DON'T think.
You're giving them far more credit than they deserve.
Why?
Because he's giving them credit for THINKING, something they clearly don't do. Because if they did, they'd realize that Republican policies are NO good for them in their economic circumstances.
Why?
Because people earning less than $250,000 would receive far more benefits for the taxes they pay than what they now have to pay to purchase those benefits privately, which they do.
Examples please.
Take health care, for example. Even with Obama's flawed plan, it will require an increase in taxes. for an average family, that will essentially be rescinding the Bush tax cuts, which amounted to about $600-$800. But they're going to get a health plan in return, which will save them approximately $1400, because they aren't going to have to pay the average family premium of $2000 to the insurance company for those same benefits.
Only "if" they buy that insurance?
Jerry, are you going to attempt to argue that a person should be uninsured and pay as you go? Because if you are, then we can terminate this discussion right here. That option is far too costly for anyone.
But, a person at the top, Jerry, will have his/her taxes raised far more than the $2000 premium for those benefits. So even though such a person will now not have to pay for private insurance, they'll be paying more in benefits. I estimate the cut-off in income is around $250,000, when the additional benefits don't equal the tax increase. So I expect those with incomes of over $250,000 to support the Republicans, because it's in their financial interest. However, for a person who doesn't have that kind of income to support the Republicans, well Jerry, can you spell S-T-U-P-I-D?
It is also called being selfish.
That may be too as well, but when you just compare the costs, the primary reason is stupidity.
Pick someone near the top and not the bottom please.
I am pretty sure those on the bottom get more in return than they pay.
They always do, Jerry. But so do those in the middle, which is most of the country. And that's government's job; provide the most benefits for the most people at the least average cost for each.
Which of course is another problem, it seems to me, why should they or for that matter anyone, get more in benefits than they paid.
Because when certain services become too expensive for most people to pay for them, it becomes necessary for government to step in for the benefit of the citizenry. You see, Jerry, the big lie of the Republican Party is that you should be self-reliant and go it alone, no matter what it costs, so that those who have the most can keep it at your expense.
Why?
Because they're selfish, and would rather the minority profits at the expense of the majority.
If you are right.....
